    • Junior Chefs' Academy in association with Chester.com and What's Cooking

    • A message from Gary Rhodes:

I am delighted to be part of the Junior Chefs' Academy. It is so important that we educate children about the benefits of a healthy, balanced diet and give them the practical skills to achieve it.

Through the Junior Chefs' Academy, these skills can be achieved while having good fun.

During your class you would have received an educational pack, within which there is a template of an apron. Design an apron for me and you could be a winner!

Prizes will be awarded to the best design from the following categories: F2, Y1/2, Y3/4, Y5/6, and your school will also win a prize.

Remember kids Junior chefs' believe "A good chef has got to be an artist" so send me your designs to chester.com, 13a Lower Bridge Street, Chester, CH1 1RS and keep looking at this page on www.chester.com to see your entry on the website. The winners will be notified prior to our award ceremony in December 2008 - see you then!

The Launch - Overleigh St. Mary’s School, Chester, Tuesday 6th January

Tuesday 8th January saw Gary Rhodes of Chester.com launch the Chester Junior Chefs academy

Children from Year 6 of Overleigh St. Mary’s School, Chester, took part in a Berry stack session, where Paul and Sue of the Junior Chefs Academy taught the importance of healthy eating and diet. Gary Rhodes was hands-on with the children, while they prepared and answered questions on healthy eating.

Chester.com launched their junior chef competition where each school that participates in the academy is given the opportunity to design an apron for Gary. Prizes include visits to Knowsley Safari Park, Blue Planet Aquarium plus many more for both the winning child and school.

Watch this page for the entries as they are submitted, and in the words of Gary Rhodes HAPPY COOKING!

Headteacher Elaine Devine said: "The Junior Cooks Academy sessions far exceeded my expectations. Excellent preparation and planning together with a lively and engaging presentation style ensured that every child enjoyed their time as a chef. The children were thrilled with their Overleigh St. Mary's Berry Stacks and went away from the session with a professional end product and clear messages about the benefits of making healthy choices. The aim of the day was to have fun with food and they certainly achieved this. The added bonus of meeting Gary Rhodes was very exciting and the children can't wait to put their creative skills into practice once again by entering the design an apron for Gary competition.

"The Junior Cooks Academy sessions were a fabulous way to start the new term in school, this is what 'Excellence and Enjoyment' is all about!"
