The Flower Cup

Located on the historic rows of Watergate Street, The Flower Cup is an independent botanical coffee shop, serving some of the finest coffee in a colourful and unique environment. Offering breakfast, lunch and an array of freshly baked cakes, The Flower Cup is the perfect place to fuel up before, during or after walk around the city. The interior also offers a cool and ventilated environment, great for your dog to shelter from the sun in the coming summer months.

One of Chester’s newer specialist coffee spots, Chalk has made huge waves since its opening. Serving ethically sourced coffee, locally baked cakes and homemade sandwiches, they have sussed the simple formula to a great coffee shop. Of course, this also includes being dog friendly, offering both treats and water to all dogs. Chalk feels like somewhere you and your canine companion could spend all day, soaking up the contemporary design in the spacious yet warm interior, or sat outside in the sun watching the world go by.

Shopping alongside our dogs is not something we’re accustomed to, however that might just change with a visit to the market. After an impressive rejuvenation, Chester Market finally made the decision to welcome dogs through its doors, much to the delight of the business owners and customers alike! Pop in for some ingredients from the multitude of mainstay traders – such as the Cheese Wedge, Ian’s 5 a Day or one of several great butchers – or sit in at one of the eateries and bars – including Death by Tacos, Nice Bites, Peak Sandwiches and That Beer Place. You and your dog will be welcomed by all in the market, with many traders starting to dish out treats for well-behaved dogs.

One of Chester’s longstanding independent cafés, Marmalade is a prime example of simple things done extremely well, using the highest quality locally sourced ingredients for breakfast and lunch. It’s a great place to enjoy a quick bite to eat with your dog, who’ll be welcomed with equal enthusiasm by the helpful and dedicated staff.

Despite being in its freshman year, Hypha’s unique approach to vegan cuisine has made this one of a kind restaurant a huge success. As it is a restaurant Hypha are unable to accommodate dogs except for at the designated unbookable tables located in the bar area! It’s a chance worth taking to sample some of their exceptional food, including such treats as their Pear poached in Tinto de Verano!

One of Chester’s most popular specialist coffee spots is also one of Chester’s most popular dog walking stops. With seating available inside and out, delectable treats available for owners and dogs (including some of the nicest scrambled egg we’ve ever tried!), and a friendly welcoming atmosphere, Jaunty Goat is a must visit for all coffee lovers – dog or no dog! However, I’m sure they’ll be over the moon if you bring your furry friend with you on your next stop.
Hanky Panky Pancakes

After half a decade of business, Hanky Panky remains as popular now as the day they first opened. This fantastic café specialises in serving the finest pancakes in the city! The fact that you can take your dog with you is yet another reason for their ever-growing popularity. One might consider pancakes a niche market, not Hanky Panky though, their extensive menu will have something for everyone, we’d also recommend trying one of their delicious milkshakes made with locally sourced ice cream.

Bridge Street has an abundance of outstanding cafes and coffee spots, Cinderbox is no exception. This dog-friendly independent has been serving up some of the nicest hot beverages in Chester for years, and even receiving praise from The Sunday Times in the process! With seats available indoor and out on the street it’s a great destination for both summer and winter.

Although in its infancy, Obscure Coffee has made waves in its first year of trading. With its eco-friendly stance and dedication to quality coffee, it’s garnered a lot of well-deserved support. Obscure is beyond dog-friendly, with tasty treats and water always nearby, along with a warm welcome from the incredibly helpful staff. A true a hidden gem that we advise you uncover sooner rather than later!

This traditional English eatery is a hotspot for dog owners. Whether it’s a short riverside stroll or a long weekend walk, The Moorings is an ideal choice. We’re not sure about other dogs but we do know for a fact that our Eric loves ice cream, and Snugbury’s new riverside spot has it in bucket loads! Located right next to the Dee Suspension bridge, Snugbury’s by the river is a great location to cool off after lengthy walk around the meadows and just like the bridge itself; we can see it becoming a huge attraction in this great city!
