Moonlight Flicks, Storyhouse’s much-loved summer programme, lets Chester residents and guests enjoy big screen cinema in the open air.
Screened in Grosvenor Park during the warmer months, films are designed to cater to a wide range of age groups and tastes. However, August’s selection will see a musical theme running for those with a love for screen adaptations of stage shows and people with a passion for famous singer-songwriters.
A Complete Unknown will be screened tonight (August 10), beginning at 8:45pm. A biopic of Bob Dylan in the 1960s, it stars Timothée Chalamet as the voice of a generation at the pivotal moment when he rocked the folk music scene by going electric. The actor sings and plays guitar on all songs in the film.
Wednesday, August 13 finds a classic playing in the park, Grease. Set in 1958, the midweek special tells the love story of Sandy Olsson and Danny Zuko perfectly played by Olivia Newton John and John Travolta, and includes unforgettable song and dance numbers like “Greased Lightning”, “Summer Nights” and “You’re the One That I Want”.
Starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo and rated PG, Wicked is the final musical for the month on Tuesday, August 19. Telling the lesser-told tale of the witches of Oz, the 2024 film is based on the Broadway show of the same name.
Film fans attending Moonlight Flicks screenings in Grosvenor Park can also order pizza and drinks when booking tickets and hire chairs for extra comfort.
