Welcome Return of Winter Zoo Illuminations

Chester Zoo will soon launch its much-loved Lanterns & Light experience. Back by popular demand for 2025, the festive event will return this month and brings back favourite attractions from earlier editions alongside brand-new elements.

Creating a wintry word full of lights, colours and sounds, the outdoor adventure offers guests of the zoo a myriad of original encounters. Designed to make lasting Christmas memories for friends and family members in every age group, the immersive experience has something for everyone. Highlights brought forward from past years include the Laser Garden and the Ribbon Tunnel, while brand new installations with imaginative titles include “Bubble Walk”, “Submergence” and “Airquarium”.

Puppets depicting some of the zoo’s animal inhabitants will be waiting to interact with all embarking on the Lanterns & Light trail thanks to skilled performers. As a result, visitors can meet illuminated snow leopards, orangutangs, peacocks, red pandas, meerkats, lions and zebras, to name but a few.

Festive food choices, hot drinks and the chance to toast marshmallows are also available to provide fuel for wintertime activities, which also include fun fair rides, a festive market and an opportunity to see Father Christmas making toys in his workshop.

Lanterns & Light will now launch at Chester Zoo on Friday, November 14, and visitors can enjoy the experience right into 2026 as the installation doesn’t close until Saturday, January 3. Tickets are available from £12, and zoo members enjoy discounted admission. Proceeds from sales will fund the registered charity’s tireless conservation efforts.
