The National Waterways Museum is the perfect place to enjoy a fun day out and to visit the new Art of Travel exhibition by local artist Nicky Thompson.
Nicky Thompson grew up and went to school in Ellesmere Port. This is his first home town exhibition. He is a graphic designer, illustrator, lecturer and occasional fine artist and since 1994 he has owned and managed design studio Lemondrop
Creative. Nicky has an MA from the Liverpool School of Art and is a visiting lecturer at the University of Chester. The Art of Travel is a retrospective set of works that spans several collections and was initially exhibited at the Nuneaton Museum &
Gallery in the Summer of 2025 to mark the Rail 200 celebrations.
In October 2024 Nicky was commissioned by Channel 5 to create a new artwork of his home-town. This was broadcast on 31 October 2025. This is the first time the artwork for Ellesmere Port (Boat Museum) has been exhibited publicly.
His other interests include football (LFC), the English Lake District, British sit-coms, decent beer and walking his dog Skye.
While you are visiting the museum, you can enjoy fresh food, hot & cold drinks at The Waterside Café and sample a range of craft ales in the Toll House Inn.
