Designed for the festive season, city landmark Chester Castle has announced it will hold “Christmas Ghost Tours” on two dates in December.
Spooky festive stories have been favoured since Charles Dickens wrote “A Christmas Carol” and his miser Scrooge was visited by ghosts from the future present and past. Now, Chester Castle will tell its own haunted tales to reveal the spookier side of the season in one of the city’s top-rated sights.
Haunting histories and the holidays will collide on the evening excursions that take intrepid visitors back in time. Knowledgeable guides will lead the way through the castle’s ancient halls and towers, while sharing creepy stories of the spirits said to haunt the grounds.
Adding to the atmosphere, Chester Castle is often chilly and dark in winter so those joining the tour are urged to wrap up warm and bring along a torch. Sensible footwear is also recommended, and as parts of the experience involve using spiral staircases, parts of the tour are unsuitable for people with limited mobility.
The Christmas Ghost Tours at Chester Castle will take place on Saturday December 6 and Sunday December 7. There will be two tours on each date at 4.30 pm and 6.30 pm and the tour duration is one hour and 30 minutes. Those participating should arrive at the gates of Chester Castle 15 minutes before the tour starts, and the gate is situated in the furthest corner of Crown Car Park.
General admission to the tours (which are suited for ages 12 and over) is just £9.38, and those under 18 enjoy free entry.
