Chester Cathedral Offers Other-Worldly Experience

Families looking for a fun day out in Chester this February won’t want to miss an upcoming event at the city’s Grade-Listed cathedral. The much-loved landmark is combining an artistic installation with a screening of an animated classic.

Those attending the Chester Cathedral’s South Transept will encounter “Moon”, a mesmerising art installation from Luke Jerram who has collaborated with Carrot Productions to create an enchanting lunar celebration loaded with music, film and practical creativity.

A highlight of the event will be several screenings of the stop-motion adventure “Wallace & Gromit: A Grand Day Out”, that will be accompanied by an ensemble of professional musicians playing its thrilling soundtrack. The short 1989 film from Nick Park was a debut for the much-loved inventor and his canine companion, and saw them land on the Moon in a quest for cheese.

Families may also participate in an optional creative workshop with a moon theme. Clay stations will be set up in the cathedral that let kids can make lunar-inspired characters of their own from plasticine.

Following each performance, there will be a meet-and-greet with the musicians, and those attending can get their picture taken with the stars of the show, Wallace and Gromit, against the beautiful backdrop of the cathedral’s historic interior.

A Grand Day Out at Chester Cathedral will now take place on Monday, February 16 in the South Transept. The cathedral can be found on St Werburgh Street in Chester, and screenings are at 1.30 pm and 2.45 pm, with a SEND showing scheduled for 4:00 pm.
