Chester Theatre Presents Ghostly Play

Theatregoers in Chester are in for a chilling treat this winter. Visitors to the city and residents alike can enjoy a nerve-tingling production called “The Signalman” at Storyhouse that runs for five consecutive days.

Created by the Middle Ground Theatre Company Ltd, the play brings Charles Dickens’ spooky short story to life on stage, with an extended adaptation of the widely successful production.

Set in the year 1880, the play tells the tale of a railway signalman working an isolated line. Haunted by visions of spectres and a sense of impending doom, he encounters a kindly traveller, who seeks to alleviate his fears.

The cast features John Burton and Chris Walker as the leads, with support from James Morley, Adam Mort and Bruce Chattan. A first-class production, audiences will experience innovative video projections and detailed set design.

While Walker is well known for his role in “Doctors” as Rob Hollins, he has also enjoyed regular appearances on British TV shows like “Coronation Street”, “The Bill”, “Playing the Field” and “Merseybeat”. Burton continues to play Sergeant Goodfellow in “Father Brown” and Alan Gordon in the soap opera “Brookside”.

Originally titled “No. 1 Branch Line. The Signal-Man”, Dickens first published his fictional horror mystery in 1866.

The Signalman will now be on stage at Storyhouse from Tuesday, February 3 to Saturday, February 7. The theatre is situated on Hunter Street in Chester, and tickets are available from £20.50. The play is one hour and 40 minutes long, and includes an interval for refreshments.
