Alexander's Live

Alexander’s Live is an independently run live music, arts and comedy venue based in Chester City Centre on Rufus Court, just off of the ancient Roman City Walls which run the length of the beer garden, the biggest beer garden the city has to offer.

Alexander's Live have been serving up music, comedy and good vibes to Cestrians and visitors to the city since 1991!

They host a variety of gigs including some amazing tribute bands as well as the best of the local talented music scene alongside great comedy, open mic nights and a smattering of independent theatre shows and festivals.

This really is your one-stop solution to a great party night out in the most beautiful setting offering a wide selection of real ales, lagers wines, spirits and cocktails plus a large selection of soft and non-alcoholic drinks and a delicious Gourmet burgers and snacks menu - there is literally something for everyone!

Friday Night Comedy

Every Friday is the regular comedy night seeing some of the best comedians take to the stage and they’ve seen the likes of Bill Bailey, Jack Dee, Russel Kane, Zoe Lyons and Gary Delany take to the stage bringing the house down with laughter!

Live Music Acts

Their musical offering is just as impressive with some brilliant artists such as Maverick Sabre, Connie Lush (Voted the no.1 UK female blues artist), Duffy, Pete Wiley, The Real Thing, Angelo Starr and The Team, Toyah and Hue and Cry and even Ed Sheeran early on in his career.

They have regular tributes to some of the greatest including Fleetwood Bac, Money For Nothing, Genesis Visible Touch, Antarctic Monkeys, Flew Fighters, The Phonics, and Flash to name but a few.

Outdoor Gigs & Festivals

In the summer they host outside courtyard gigs and festivals in the wonderful beer garden which has seen the likes of N-Trance, Urban Cookie Collective and Ultrabeat play.

Event Hire

Please note Alexander's Live is closed on Wednesdays for event hire and it's a very popular space for all sorts of events including weddings (as they are a licensed venue for marriages) with it's very versatile indoor and outdoor space with both the beautiful courtyard of Rufus Court at the front and the beautiful beer garden at the back overlooked by Chester's historic city walls.
