Beloved Literature Event Returns to Chester

City arts hub Storyhouse will once again host the Chester Literature Festival this year.

The spring-into-summer event will run from late May to the second week of June, and will celebrate literature, poetry, spoken word, screen and stage writing and more. Organisers of the annual event recently announced some of the first big names appearing, and confirmed that from 2025 onwards the festival will always have a spring start.

This year, the Chester Literature Festival is sponsored by Aaron & Partners Solicitors, and tickets for individual events included in the programme are already available to book. Those attending the festival can expect writing workshops, poetry readings, talks, gigs, interactive activities and performances. During the event, Storyhouse’s onsite library will spring to life and its staff are welcoming festivalgoers to stop by and say hello.

Festival appearances will include best-selling author, screenwriter and actress Ruth Jones, with her brand-new novel titled “By Your Side”, and award-winning author, broadcaster and journalist Daisy Buchanan, who presents the popular “You’re Booked” podcast. The Reverend Richard Coles will also feature in an intimate two-hour evening event. The UK’s only vicar to appear on “Strictly Come Dancing” as a contestant and have a number one single, Coles is also one of the Sunday Times’ best-selling authors. This summer will see his latest novel “A Death on Location” released.

The Chester Literature Festival 2025 begins on Wednesday, May 21 and runs until Sunday, June 15. Storyhouse can be found on Hunter Street in Chester.
