Christmas Parades

Get in the Christmas spirit and see Chester brought to life with the city's stunning festive parades

2020 COVID UPDATE - To keep everyone safe the traditional Chester Christmas parades will not unfortunately happen this year

There are still plenty of other wonderful Christmas activities happening though… The Lights and Christmas trees will still shine, Santa is still coming to town, Christmas festive dining options and Christmas day dinners are aplenty and you can’t get more Christmassy than booking a seat to see a Christmas Carol and The Snowman shows.

You can also find everything for the season at a glance on our Christmas in Chester page plus all the latest updates as they happen on our Guide to Christmas 2020 blog.

Experience the history and beauty of Chester’s Christmas parades

Although we will not get to delight in them for 2020, every other year, Chester has numerous magical parades throughout the festive period range from the historic and symbolic to the simple beauty of bringing light and life to the city in celebration.

The typical line up is the 12 Days of Christmas parade with live music, carols and Santa’s sleigh followed closely by the lantern parade with the city’s children filling the streets with the glow of beautiful lanterns mid to the end of November followed by the historic Winter Watch and the Winter Watch and Saturnalia parades in December which date back to the 1400’s and the Roman legions led by traditional torchlight.

When coming into Chester this Christmas we recommend to have a bite to eat or drink in some of the amazing food and drink establishments Chester has to offer and you can even find special seasonal deals to make your Christmas pennies go a little further.

Chester’s food and drink scene comes alive at this time of the year, it has the best restaurants to choose from with lots of child and family friendly options and a great lineup of bars and pubs for a festive tipple or perhaps you fancy a cocktail or two!
