Puzzle solvers visiting and living in Chester are in for a treat this winter.
Two of the city’s leading escape rooms Breakout Chester and Escapism Chester have released special seasonal rooms especially for Christmas and are inviting intrepid teams to take part. Escape rooms make for unconventional festive activities but have become increasingly popular over the years. A favourite for friends and families to get together over the holidays, they also make superb staff parties that get the team working together.
This year, Breakout Chester has unveiled two Christmas-themed escape rooms. In “A Crimson Christmas”, which has a difficulty rating of four, teams take on the role of ghosts liberating gifts stolen by the Dickensian miser Ebenezer Scrooge which have been converted into cryptic clues. The “Night Before Christmas” (difficulty rating two) calls upon players to restore the Northern Lights to their full glory by unravelling the North Pole’s mysteries.
Escapism Chester’s Christmas adventure launches on November 16 and will be open for teams to test their skills until January 12. Entitled “Showtime”, the escape room setting is a classic British pantomime and is suitable for between two to six players. The show is set to start, but something is awry. The Dame’s wig has vanished, and the team must hunt backstage for it to save the performance.
Breakout Chester can be found at 45 Bridge Street, while Escapism Chester is based in the Cestria Buildings at 1 Fountains on George Street.
