Visitors and residents of Chester looking for lunchtime exercise this week are in luck. A short walk called “Roundabout the Castle” has been organised that will take participants on a stroll around the exterior of Chester Castle, accompanied by a professional guide.
The meeting point for the tour is Chester’s acclaimed arts centre, Storyhouse. Green Badge guide, Katie Crowther, will be waiting to greet guests before the tour heads out to Chester’s historic Castle. The in-person experience is 40 minutes in length and ideal for those looking to learn more about the landmark and its intriguing history while connecting with others on a walk.
Chester Castle has held a prominent position at the city centre’s southwestern corner since the 11th century. As a result, it is an intrinsic element of Chester and Cheshire’s history. In its time, it has served as a royal castle, military headquarters, prison, court assizes, mint and, more recently, as a centre for learning.
The tour and talk will allow walkers to learn more about its many incarnations and stories of some of its notable residents. The walk will also take in medieval parishes and ancient lanes that surround Chester Castle, along with the Grosvenor Museum, roundabout and bridge. The tour ends at St Mary’s Creative Space.
The Chester lunchtime walk will take place tomorrow, September 17, and sets off from Hunter Street at 12:10 pm. Tickets to participate in the guided experience are available priced at £8.83 per person.
