Chester to Stage Sherlock Holmes Outdoors in Summer

The beating heart of the arts in Chester, Storyhouse, is soon presenting a new theatrical production called “The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes”.

The upcoming play has been specially designed for the venues much-loved summertime spectacular the Grosvenor Park Open Air Theatre and will begin its run in mid-July.

While the play has no official age restrictions, it is recommended for those aged 10 and over.

An all-new adaption of England’s famous sleuth, the production was inspired by the collected works of revered author, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The play is directed by Ellie Hurt with a script from writer Molly Taylor and features fight choreography from Kaitlin Howard and music by composer, Paula James.

It transports celebrated detective Sherlock Holmes and the faithful Dr Watson to modern-day Chester. Soon, they find themselves in the spotlight as they become drawn into a personal and intriguing mystery.

The Grosvenor Park Open Air Theatre has enjoyed critical acclaim for the plays and production it puts on each summer. A review at The Guardian gave it four stars and commented:

“The prize for adventurous programming goes to Storyhouse.”

Ethan Reid will take on the role of Sherlock Holmes, with Jessica Jolleys as Dr Dotty Watson and Victoria Brazier as Mrs Hudson.

The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes will be performed live at Grosvenor Park Open Air Theatre from Friday, July 18 to Sunday, August 31. The park is easy to find in central Chester on Grosvenor Park Road.
