Heritage site and city landmark Chester Cathedral is presenting a night of music celebrating some of the best-loved films of Christmas.
The evening event will take place in the Grade I listed building nave, renowned for its impressive acoustics, and is titled “Christmas at the Movies”.
An active place of worship, the cathedral has also earned applause for its position as a leading events venue in the city. The musical extravaganza is a festive edition of a continuing programme called Concerts by Candlelight, which has featured a variety of acts and different music genres ranging from rock to classical.
Acclaimed ensemble the London Concertante will perform themes and excerpts from famous Christmas film soundtracks, illuminated by hundreds of LED candles. The two-hour long programme will feature music from enchanting animations like “The Nightmare Before Christmas” and “The Polar Express”, from modern classics like “Elf”, “Love Actually” and “Home Alone” and vintage greats like “It’s A Wonderful Life”, “A Christmas Carol” and “White Christmas”, among many others.
The family-friendly event is designed to appeal to classical music aficionados and novices alike, and is an ideal opportunity to introduce younger people to an orchestral experience. The festive concert is accessible for wheelchair users and all ages are welcome to attend.
The Christmas at the Movies candlelit concert at Chester Cathedral will start at 7.30 pm and finish at 9.30 pm on Friday, December 27. Those attending can easily find the cathedral of St. Werburgh Street in the heart of Chester.
