Storyhouse Cinema Set to Re-Open on 17 May With Award Winning Films

Storyhouse Cinema will once again be able to welcome you from 17 May and what a fabulous line-up of award-winning films to get you back to the big screen. Films screening include Nomadland which won the Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actress Academy Awards and BAFTAs. Nomadland is only the second feature directed by a woman to win the major Best Picture Award, and director Chloe Zhao is the first woman of colour to walk away with the Best Director award.

Judas & The Black Messiah
saw both Lakeith Stanfield and Daniel Kaluuya nominated against each other in the Best Supporting Actor role for the Academy Awards. Kaluuya triumphed winning the Oscar and a BAFTA for his performance as charismatic Black Panther Chairman Fred Hampton.

The Sound of Metal will also be in the opening line-up. Riz Ahmed stars as a hard rock musician whose hearing begins to fail whilst on tour. Every screening of this groundbreaking film about deafness and identity will play with caption subtitles as standard.

Nominated inĀ all major categories for both the Academy Awards and BAFTAS, the acclaimed Minari will be on the big screen following the virtual release which Storyhouse participated in April. Youn Yuh-Jung won the Best Supporting Actress award as a Korean grandma who comes to America to live with her daughter and son-in-law.

The final award winner coming to Storyhouse is The Father. Anthony Hopkins deservedly won the Best Actor Oscar and BAFTA for his incredible performance as Anthony, an 81-year-old man struggling to make sense of what is happening around him in this domestic drama that unfolds like a thriller. Olivia Colman gives characteristically strong support in the role of his daughter.Ā
