Chester Regatta was established in 1733 making it the oldest Regatta in the entire world and a real claim to fame for the city!
It's a free event for spectators and a wonderful day out by the gorgeous River Dee for all the family & well behaved dogs are welcome too. Chester Regatta predates Henley Regatta by over 100 years and is much older than the Oxford / Cambridge Boat Race too so it really is a very historic event.
The regatta ground is at Sandy Lane Park, Sandy Lane, Chester, Cheshire CH3 5UL (where there is free parking for about 40 cars) and great viewing or alternatively from The Meadows on the other side of the river and the ferry will be operating between the Regatta ground and the Meadows for those that want to cross over.
Everyone is welcome to come along to cheer and support the fantastic local rowing clubs alongside the impressive rowing clubs from across the country as race side by side down a 750m stretch of the River Dee from the Red House past the hosts of the event, Chester Sailing Club and onto to the finish past Sandy Lane Park.
There will be a wide range of refreshments on sale and the organisers do ask that you bring your re-useable tea and coffee cups to help reduce waste.
Transport between the Regatta site and Chester City Centre
The 41B from the bus stop on Sandy Lane, opposite Walmoor Park goes to Chester City Centre
Regatta Ferry - The organisers hope to lay on a Ferry service, leaving the Regatta Ferry quay on the hour and dropping off on the Groves (a short walk from there to the centre of Chester) and picking up from the Groves at a quarter past each hour to return to the Regatta.
Walk/Bike. You can either walk up Sandy Lane, along Boughton and into our beautiful City (about 1 mile) or cross the River on the Ferry and then walk downsteam on the Meadows, across the Queens Park Suspension Bridge and up into Chester (a bit further but great for dogs).
