Northwest not-for-profit Chester Zoo recently announced it plans for an update to its high profile “Run for Nature”.
The autumn event will include different heats designed for different abilities and ages including one-mile, five-kilometre and 10-kilometre options.
Just 2,500 spots are available for the running event that has been designed to raise much-needed funds to support the attraction’s tireless conservation efforts to safeguard highly endangered giraffes inhabiting East Africa.
After successfully editions of the event in 2023 and 2024, the zoo has mapped out an all-new route for entrants. Letting runners see more of the zoo’s 128 acres than ever before, the course winds past an abundance of exceptional species including lemurs and elephants, before extending into the charming Cheshire countryside.
In past year the Run for Nature encompassed only a 10km event but this year a 5km option and a one-mile-long “Zoom” run for kids (ages 4 to 15) have been added.
The zoo intends for runners of varying abilities to take try their hand, and a new 5km run has been added to the ever-popular 10km and one-mile ‘Zoom’ fun run for children aged 4 – 15.
The Run for Nature will take place at Chester Zoo on Sunday, September 21.
All proceeds from the event will protect Nubian giraffes, a species that has experienced drastic population decline due to poaching, habitat loss, and conflict with human communities.
At the finish line, all runners will get a wooden medal and enjoy free zoo entry for the rest of the day.
