Guests and residents of Chester will soon get a chance to step back in time to the roaring 20s.
The city’s spiritual centre and grade-listed event space, Chester Cathedral, has announced its plans to hold a glittering event called “The Great Gatsby Ball” in late November. Inspired by the novel by author F. Scott Fitzgerald, the evening aims to capture the glamour and glitz of the bygone era with live swing music, exciting cabaret acts and stylish fashion.
Perfect for partygoers seeking festivities in the run up to Christmas, the four-hour extravaganza will recreate a dance during the jazz age inside the historic interior of the enchanting cathedral. To create an atmosphere of sophistication, guests are invited to dress in their elegant best for the evening, with smart suits for gentlemen and flapper dresses and pearls for ladies.
Revellers can dance to the beat of an accomplished swing band performing live, amplified by the cathedral’s impressive acoustics. The musicians will play a set-list filled with major modern hits but with an old school jazz style.
The Great Gatsby Ball will be in Chester Cathedral on Saturday, November 29. The ball will begin at 7 pm and will finish at 11 pm, and tickets are priced at £38.94. The cathedral can be found based on Saint Werburgh Street in Chester.
The upcoming event is only open to those who are aged 18 and over, and attendees are advised that valid photo identification may be requested before entry is granted.
