The Nave in Chester Cathedral has long been revered for its astonishing acoustics and this month will see event organisers at the city landmark put them to good use.
In a summer series of candlelit concerts, the Cathedral has already hosted concerts dedicated to Adele and rock legends Pink Floyd, and there are still two more acts appearing both performing back-to-back shows in July.
Returning by popular demand, “The Music of Abba by Candlelight” will be back at the Cathedral on Friday, July 12 and Saturday, July 13. Abba Reunion, the UK’s foremost tribute to the Swedish pop stars, will be on stage leading a sing-along experience guaranteed to get fans dancing in the Nave’s aisles. The show boasts more than 20 hit songs by the quartet including iconic tracks like “Thank You for the Music”, “Money, Money, Money”, “Mamma Mia”, “Super Trooper”, “Dancing Queen” and “Voulez Vouz”.
Friday, July 19 and Saturday, July 20 will see a cast of talented singers from London’s West End backed by a live band perform “Elton John by Candlelight”. From soulful ballads like “Candle in the Wind”, “Sacrifice” and “Your Song” to upbeat numbers like “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” and rock classics like “Bennie and the Jets” and “Rocket Man”, energetic renditions of Sir Elton’s top hits will be heard in the Cathedral’s rafters.
Chester Cathedral can be found sited on St Werburgh Street, and all the July concerts have a start time of 7.30 pm.
