Christmas Concert Coming to Chester Cathedral

Grade listed city attraction Chester Cathedral has announced it will host a special concert for the festive season in late November.

The upcoming event is entitled “Vivaldi’s Four Seasons at Christmas” and is part of the cathedral’s popular programme of candle lit concerts, which range from full orchestral performances to rock shows boasting singers from London’s West End and live electric backing bands.

The upcoming evening event at Chester Cathedral invites visitors and residents in the city to appreciate an exceptional musical experience in the run up to Christmas. It features an accomplished performance of “The Four Seasons”, Vivaldi’s timeless masterpiece accompanied by Rachmaninov’s “Second Piano Concerto”.

The concert will see the cathedral aglow, illuminated by hundreds of LED candles creating an enchanting setting and features the Piccadilly Sinfonietta, a revered violin soloist and Warren Mailley-Smith, the celebrated concert pianist.

The Piccadilly Sinfonietta formed in 2017 and has become a consistent presence on the UK’s classical concert scene, performing in some of the nation’s most prestigious venues. The musical ensemble comprises prodigious talent and exclusively performs with the best and brightest virtuoso soloists. The Sinfonietta is led by founder Mailley-Smith, who provides piano accompaniment and artistic direction with a repertoire that favours early romantic, classical and baroque periods.

The Vivaldi’s Four Seasons at Christmas concert will now take place at Chester Cathedral on Monday, November 25. The event is set to start at 7.30 pm, and the cathedral is situated on St. Werburgh Street in Chester.
