Two infamous musicians are set to steal the spotlight in Chester this summer.
Music and comedy hub Alexander’s Live has confirmed it will be extending a warm welcome to John Otway and Wild Willy Barrett for a single-night show.
Known for their long and tumultuous, history the venerable duo is celebrated for their unpredictable performances that combine virtuoso musicianship with chaotic spectacle.
After recording and playing together disruptively for more than five decades, Otway and Barrett are bringing their music to the city.
While the musicians met in school as boys, they released their first single as a duo in 1973 called “Murder Man”. Produced by The Who’s Pete Townshend, at his own recording studio, the single failed to chart, but the story of Otway and Barrett was just getting underway.
From playing in the punk era and becoming popular on the pub circuit to appearing on respected music TV shows like “The Old Grey Whistle Test”, they had many landmark moments between splitting up and reforming several times. They even appeared on “Top of the Pops” with their chart hit “Cor Baby That’s Really Free” introduced by Elton John, and have since developed a cult following.
Those attending the show can expect deadpan humour and a large helping of musical mayhem.
John Otway and Wild Willy Barrett will now be on stage at Alexander’s Live on Thursday, June 18 June. The venue is based at Rufus Court in Chester and standing tickets are available priced at £23 per person.
