Children’s Literature Comes Alive on Chester Stage

Storyhouse in Chester will present “Tom Gates EPIC Stage Show” this winter. The theatrical production is adapted from the best-selling book series and hit TV show, and is all-new for 2025.

Created by author and illustrator Liz Pinchon, the Tom Gates series includes beloved graphic fiction books based on the titular character, a 10-year-old boy who attends Oakfield Primary School. Presented as Gates’ illustrated diaries, the books began in 2011 with “The Brilliant World of Tom Gates”, which earned critical acclaim. The title scooped up a Red House Children’s Book Award, the Roald Dahl Funny Prize, and a Waterstones Children’s Book Prize, resulting in 22 more books that have sold over 14 million editions around the world in total.

The new production brings Pinchon’s illustrations and stories to life on stage and includes laugh-out-loud performances and earworm tunes like “The Biscuit Song”, “I’m a Cat” and “Epic, epic, epic”, designed for audience participation.

Storyhouse is a registered charity hailed as the home of art and literature in the city. It incorporates theatres, a library, a restaurant and an independent cinema, and provides a creative and social space for the community.

Tom Gates EPIC Stage Show will now be performed live at Storyhouse on Saturday, November 1. The art centre is situated on Hunter Street, and the performance will start at 12.30 pm and end at 3.30 pm.

Standard tickets are ready to buy at £18.50 for adults, and £17.50 for children, along with family tickets for four people (two adults and two children) for £68. Discounted admission is available for Storyhouse members.
