The UK brand split cities into different categories based on their size and assessed them on a variety of factors to calculate an overall score.

The walled metropolis beat off other competitors, including prominent cities like Exeter, Cambridge, Worcester and Oxford, receiving a total city score of 80% from Which? customers.
City scores were decided after consumers gave star ratings out of five on a wide range of features. These included average hotel prices, food and drink, the price, quality and range of cultural attractions, how easy it is to get around, shopping, parking and overall value for money. How likely respondents would be to recommend cities to friends as a break destination was also taken into consideration.
Chester received four out of five stars in multiple areas including food and drink, accommodation (average hotel price £107), shopping, cultural sites and ease of getting around. It also scored highly for available parking compared to most cities in the north and south, to obtain its grand city score of 80%.
