Cathedral Concert Welcomes Spring Season

A city landmark and spiritual centre, Chester Cathedral welcomes more than 300,000 visitors to its grade listed interior each year.

While many come to worship or explore its impressive architecture, others come for its astonishing concerts. April will see the venue hold a special spring event that will let audiences enjoy Italian composer Vivaldi’s music echoing in the cathedral’s Nave by candlelight.

The evening performance will showcase the skills of the highly praised London Concertante and takes ticket holders on a sonic journey featuring baroque gems and violin virtuosity. Antonio Vivaldi’s masterful “The Four Seasons” will take centre stage, evoking a wide range of different imagery to conjure a sense of spring, summer, autumn and winter. However, the event will also see the accomplished ensemble performing “The Lark Ascending” by English composer extraordinaire, Vaughn Williams.

Chester Cathedral’s continuing programme of concerts by candlelight are designed to maximise its elegant interior and impressive acoustics while promoting safety. The concerts feature a thousand candles, but use LED powered candles that are battery operated and entirely flameless.

The candle lit concert will take place in The Nave of Chester Cathedral on Friday, April 25. Tickets are available on a scale of prices starting at £21 with the best seats in the venue offered at £46 per person.

Doors to the concert will open at 6.45 pm, while the performance has a start-time of 7.30 pm and is due to end at 9.30 pm. Chester Cathedral is simple to locate on St. Werburgh Street.
