Chester Castle to Host Special Festive Event

Chester landmark and national heritage building Chester Castle will soon be hosting a special occasion for the festive season. English Heritage announced that early December will see the historic site open its doors to the public with a family-friendly event entitled “Christmas at the Castle”.

Ideal for visitors and residents alike, the celebration at the castle is designed for those looking to get festive, as well as history buffs on a city break. For one day only, guests are invited to enter Chester Castle to the sound of live Medieval Christmas music playing in the courtyard. Little ones visiting the venerable fortress will even get an opportunity to meet St. Nicholas himself, also known as Father Christmas or Santa Claus in our time.

For budding historians, there will be a chance to learn how Christmas was celebrated in Chester in times gone by, like the Medieval and Victorian eras. Those attending the Christmas occasion can also visit the famous Agricola Tower and its astonishing Medieval Chapel.

The castle’s popular second-hand book shop will be open during the day and will be offering visitors a chance to try their hand at some traditional arts and crafts. Entry to the special seasonal day is free and all are invited to attend, including dogs, although they must be kept on a lead during visits.

Christmas at the Castle will take place on Saturday, December 2 and there will be two different sessions. The castle is open between 11 am and 3 pm, and again between 4 pm and 6.30 pm for an after-dark event.

Chester Castle overlooks the river Dee and is situated on Grosvenor Street in Chester.
