According to leading accommodation website Booking.com, Chester is among the top ten cities in the world to visit for a warm welcome.
The Cheshire metropolis was the only place in the UK to feature in the site’s 2025 Traveller Reviews Awards, which included destinations in the US (St Augustine), Italy (Orvieto), Brazil (Urubici) and Thailand (Ko Lanta).
Booking.com applauded Chester’s enchanting blend of architecture from Roman, Tudor and medieval times, all perfectly preserved within its historic walls. It commended the city’s iconic Roman amphitheatre, regarded as the biggest in Britain, the 11th-century Chester Cathedral with its attractive Gothic architecture, and the Chester Rows offering a unique tiered shopping experience.
The website’s entry on Chester also noted the city’s substantial role in the English Civil War and the key battles that were fought close by. While referred to as a historic gem, Chester is also in easy reach of a diverse range of outstanding amenities and attractions including the award-winning Chester Zoo and the record-breaking Ice Cream Farm.
In terms of accommodation Chester also provides an impressive array of options to suit different budgets, tastes, and needs from five-star hotels like the Chester Grosvenor to serviced suites at Roomzzz Chester.
The recent awards also highlighted how convenient Chester was as a travel destination. Only 45 minutes by car from airport cities like Liverpool and Manchester and around two hours by train from London, the city was described as an accessible location for overseas visitors.
