Tourism leaders in Chester and Wrexham recently pledged to work together to encourage more visitors and entice them to spend more and stay for longer.
Hoteliers, transport providers and other industry experts were included in a recently assembled team as part of an ongoing effort to optimise the impact of Wrexham Football Club’s success story, by combining it with the first-class tourism found in Chester and wider Cheshire.
Wrexham has found itself in the spotlight since actors Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds took ownership and revived its football club, showcasing their actions in a series on the Disney+ streaming service.
The January meeting took place at Chester’s famous Grosvenor Pulford Hotel and was organised jointly by Destination Wrexham and Marketing Cheshire, and led by Visit Wales and Visit England. The tourism industry gathering focused on cementing bonds between Chester and Wrexham, two cities with a just a 15-minute-long train trip between them.
Opportunities to create cross-border packages for international tourists were discussed, which could include key sporting sites like Chester Racecourse, the oldest active racecourse in the world, and Wrexham’s Racecourse Ground, the world’s oldest international football stadium. However, heritage experiences involving Chester’s renowned Roman past were also part of discussions.
The productive event arrived after freshly released data once more highlighted Cheshire’s impressive reputation as one of the UK’s world-class visitor destinations. This recognition has been driven by the region’s history, majestic scenery and architecture, as well as its budding food and fashion scenes, attracting millions of visitors every year.
