Viennese Christmas Experience Returning to Chester

The spiritual centre of the city, Chester Cathedral is hosting a special festive concert in December.

Back by tremendous demand, the “Viennese Christmas Spectacular” will once more grace the stage of the grade-listed cathedral for 2024, promising a magical evening of music.

Performed by the gifted chamber ensemble, the London Concertante, the event features musical pieces known and loved by audiences around the world that conjure the enchantment of Christmas.

The symphonic experience begins with the sweeping “Die Fledermaus Overture” and energetic “Trisch-Trasch Polka” by Johann Strauss II, before heading into the romantic swell of the “Sleeping Beauty Waltz” by Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. The vibrant rhythm of Johannes Brahms’ beloved “Hungarian Dance No. 5” follows before the festive gem that is Tchaikovsky’s “Nutcracker Suite” arrives to incite dreams of childhood wonder.

The Christmas concert concludes with the “Blue Danube Waltz”, the piece that saw Austria’s Strauss recognised as the true master of the celebrated Viennese Waltz.

The concert is designed for all ages to enjoy and those attending are encouraged to dress warmly to ensure they are comfortable for the duration of the two-hour event. Organisers are welcoming guests to film and take pictures on the night to post and share on social media.

The Viennese Christmas Spectacular will now take place in The Nave at Chester Cathedral on Friday, 6 December. Tickets are available from £23.46, and the cathedral is simple to find on Saint Werburgh Street in Chester.

The concert will commence at 7.30 pm and finishes at 9.30 pm.
