The Chester Art Centre and The Chester Bluecoat Charity host Art and Artisan Makers fair showcasing the talent of local artists
The Chester Art and Artisan Makers fair will showcase 8 local artists in the iconic setting of the Bluecoat Courtyard on Upper Northgate Street on Saturday August 13th. Hundreds of pieces of stunning work will be displayed with all the original art available to purchase. The fair will include visual art, ceramics and jewellery all made by local artists.
The art fair will heighten the buzzing atmosphere in Chester as it coincides with the 10th Chester pride, a free event in the city celebrating the LGBTQ community, with over 15,000 people expected to attend.
The Chester Art Centre has been described by an artist as ‘an organisation that says yes rather than no’ and has given new emerging artists a chance to develop, get into a very challenging business and progress to having a career in the arts.
Speaking on the event, a spokesperson for Chester Art Centre commented: “Our mission is to support and nurture the talent we have in Chester by hosting a vibrant art market.”
“We have affordable interior art as well as jewellery, with all pieces created exclusively by Chester artists. Celebrating our second year, the fair is proof of talent in the city and the thriving local art scene and creates an enjoyable social event. The fair is free entry and we extend a warm welcome to all.”
A donation from the fair proceeds will be made to a local charity.
The location of the art fair, the historic Grade II listed Bluecoat building on Upper Northgate Street, is owned by The Chester Bluecoat Charity and is a hub for charities and voluntary organisations. The Chester Bluecoat Charity, one of the oldest charities in the city, awards grants to organisations that use education and community development to change the lives of people in need throughout Chester and the surrounding area.
Last year, the charity awarded Kidsbank a “game-changing” grant of £45,000 over the course of three years which helped the charity move to a much larger premises. This will help Kidsbank to not only extend its reach, but also add extra services. Other local charities and causes it has supported include Fallen Angels Dance Theatre, Passion for Learning and has sponsored educational bursaries.
The art fair is one in a series being run over the summer at the same location. The first two art fairs of 2022 were great successes with buzzing, family-friendly atmospheres. One visitor commented that they loved meeting the actual artists and makers, putting names and faces to the art they are seeing.
The Chester Bluecoat building has disabled access and can be found on Upper Northgate Street, CH1 4EE.
The art fair will take place on Saturday 13th August from 10am – 6pm on the front courtyard of The Chester Bluecoat building. Located within the city centre, the Bluecoat is easily accessible by foot, car, bus or train.
