Storyhouse in Chester is a respected centre for the arts that includes a theatre, library and cinema. This summer, it is launching a new initiative that lets up and coming creatives in the field of film connect and showcase their work.
Dubbed “Chester Filmmakers”, the programme includes a free community group that will be held monthly in the arts venue to support local creators. Through the programme, the art centre is providing a space for aspiring and established filmmakers to meet their peers and share their latest projects.
Meetings will let filmmakers screen their work in Storyhouse Cinema and then give them a chance to discuss titles shown in the relaxed setting of The Kitchen, the art hub’s popular eatery. The initiative is aimed at people of all experience levels, abilities and backgrounds, however there is an age restriction of 18 or over.
Submissions are welcome from filmmakers based in Chester, wider Cheshire, and its surrounding areas like North Wales, Liverpool, Warrington and Manchester, but creators must be able to come to meetings in person.
Films submitted must be no longer than 20 minutes to ensure the programme has sufficient time to showcase all works from participating filmmakers. However, films need not be complete and rough cuts, works in progress and scenes from longer projects are encouraged.
Chester Filmmakers will now run from Wednesday, July 15 to Wednesday, October 21. Group screenings will run in Storyhouse Cinema at 6 pm and in The Kitchen at 7 pm. The venue is based on Hunter Street in Chester city centre.
