Chester’s Grosvenor Park will soon become a stage for several theatre productions. City arts hub Storyhouse is once again running its “Open Air Theatre” programme, and has unveiled the titles for 2026.
Launching the summer spectacular is “Outlaws: A Robin Hood Story”. Those buying tickets can watch beloved characters like Robin Hood, Little John and Marian rob from the rich to give to the poor in their most dangerous and daring heist to date. As they tackle the Sherriff of Nottingham and corrupt King John, audiences can enjoy swashbuckling duels fought to a rousing folk soundtrack.
Written by Helen Redcliffe, “Let The Sun Shine” is set in the summer of 1969. A life-affirming story about joy and generations colliding, the play centres on a small traditional village. When a travelling festival arrives filled with freedom and music, young Harry must choose between village life and his dreams.
Designed for younger theatregoers, “Peter Pan” takes little ones off to Neverland. An immersive walkabout theatre experience, the production includes dastardly villains like Captain Hook and revered heroes like Peter Pan, Wendy Darling and Tinker Bell.
The final show of the season is “Nell Gwynn”. A musical set in 1660, the story follows the historic trailblazer from Drury Lane to the court of King Charles II, who became one of the first actresses in Britain.
The Grosvenor Park Open Air Theatre programme will run from Friday, July 3 to Sunday, September 6. The ornamental park is accessible from Grosvenor Park Road, and tickets for performances are available at a range of prices.
