Storyhouse in Chester will soon present an Olivier Award-nominated production to its stage called “The Choir of Man”.
Proving an international hit, the show is embarking on its first tour of the UK, which includes a five-date run at the much-loved city arts centre.
A high-energy musical with a unique format, The Choir of Man takes place in a fully functional pub set up on stage. Audiences attending can enjoy pints pulled and served by the cast before the performance and during the interval. The characters featured in the show include everyman archetypes like the Romantic, the Bore, the Barman and the Poet. The musical was written to celebrate friendship, a sense of community and men’s mental health.
The production presents live musical performances from accomplished singers and multi-instrumentalists. Well-known tracks provide a soundtrack to the story from a diverse range of genres including pop, rock and soul that are sourced from different eras. Featured artists include Sia, Queen, Paul Simon, Guns N’ Roses, Adele, Luther Vandross, Katy Perry and Avicii, among many more.
The Choir of Man will now be performed on stage in the Main Theatre of Storyhouse Theatre from Tuesday, August 18 to Saturday, August 22. The show is two hours long (which includes an interval for refreshments), and the arts venue is based on Hunter Street in Chester city centre.
Storyhouse member tickets are priced between £33 and £52.35, while non-members admission is available from £36.50 to £58. While the musical has no swearing, it contains adult themes and on-stage alcohol. As a result, it has an age guidance recommendation of 10 and up.
