Illuminating Art Arriving in Chester

Chester Cathedral has announced that it will soon be hosting a special mixed-media art exhibition entitled ‘Discovery’. The installation is a light and sound experience focused on space and science, and was designed by Luxmuralis.

This February, it will provide people who live in or are visiting Chester with an immersive and spectacular journey when they walk through the cathedral, helping them learn about what human beings have achieved in the massive world around us.

The event is a first for the city and offers cathedral visitors a chance to consider our continuing relationship with our planet and the galaxy beyond. The installation takes its audience through space and time, witnessing historic human moments like the first rocket launch through original footage and examining origin theories like the Big Bang.

The Dean of Chester, The Very Reverend Dr Tim Stratford, commented on the upcoming installation:

“I’m excited to commence 2024 with such an awe-inspiring event. Peter Walker, and the Luxmuralis team have created events in cathedrals nationally, and it’s fantastic to bring one to Chester.”

The installation is suited to all age groups. Adult tickets for the installation are priced at £9.50, while children can enjoy admission for just £6.

Discovery will launch at Chester Cathedral on Wednesday, February 21 and be open to the public until Saturday, February 24.

The event opens at 5.45 pm and closes at 8.30 pm daily. Tickets can be purchased online or at Chester Cathedral, which is located on St Werburgh Street.
