The Live Rooms in Chester is taking audiences back in time to the 1990s next month.
The hit city venue is opening its doors to an international tribute show called “The Year Grunge Broke”, inviting music lovers to relive the rebellious spirit and energy of the genre sometimes called “The Seattle Sound”.
Visitors to Chester and those who live in the city can expect to hear top-ranking tines from the biggest acts of the era. These include Alice In Chains (AIC), The Screaming Trees, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, Mudhoney, The Smashing Pumpkins, Mother Love Bone, Tad, Temple of the Dog, Hole and Nirvana.
The early movement centred on independent Seattle label Sub Pop and the area’s vibrant underground music scene. Sub Pop’s owners Jonathan Poneman and Bruce Pavitt shrewdly marketed the music style, encouraging the press to call it “grunge”.
A quintessential experience for grunge and alternative rock fans, the upcoming show in Chester has earned critical acclaim for its exhilarating live stage performances and has now accrued close to 500,000 followers on its dedicated Facebook page.
The Year Grunge Broke will now be on stage in Room L1 at The Live Rooms on Friday, February 21. The night spot is sited at 1 Station Road in Chester and the show is suited for those aged 14 and over. Ticket prices are £15 when bought online or £18 on the door, and the performance will start at 7 pm with the venue closing at 11 pm.
