A nationally recognised city landmark, The Chester Rows date to medieval times. This November, Chester is celebrating the beloved tourist attraction with a month-long event entitled “Rowvember” that will feature a wide range of free entertainment and activities for residents and visitors to the city alike to appreciate.
A galleried shopping site in the centre, The Rows are lined with shops and places to eat and drink like the Naughty Badger Bistro, Paysan wine bar, plant-based kitchen Shrub and the celebrated Olive Tree Brasserie.
The initiative is designed to put the city’s architectural feature under the spotlight, drawing attention to its impressive heritage, history and thriving business community. Those visiting can enjoy free guided tours led by experts, but also self-guided excursions where visitors can take The Rows in at a pace that suits them. For more adventurous parties with little explorers, there will be a family treasure hunt.
Cllr Lisa Denson, overseeing for Libraries, Arts, and Culture in Chester, praised the programme, commenting:
“The Rows are not just a shopping destination—they’re a living piece of medieval history that continues to thrive in our modern city. Rowvember is our opportunity to showcase these remarkable structures and the wonderful businesses that call them home.”
Cultural performances will also pop up on the rows during the month, including choirs, dance performances and film screenings. Special events will also celebrate the architecture of The Rows and the companies that call them home, while playing a key role in the lively commercial hub.
