Chester Zoo Offers Public Access to its Award-winning Pub

Working with 3,000 species around the world, Chester Zoo is also home to more than 37,000 animals. As a result, it has become a beloved destination for city visitors and residents. Chester Zoo is also available as a venue for functions from meetings to weddings thanks to its esteemed offerings such as The Square, a multi-purpose events space, and The Oakfield, an award-winning gastro pub.

While previously the onsite public house could only be enjoyed during Zoo opening hours, February will see the it change its ways. For the first time ever, The Oakfield will be opening every Friday evening to the public throughout the month between the hours of 5pm and 11pm.

Visitors to the pub can access The Oakfield using the events entrance for the zoo based on Caughall Road. The revered gastro pub can be found at the very heart of Chester Zoo, and was once an enclosure where some of its first animals lived, including bears, lions, parrots, pelicans and chimpanzees.

Back in 2018, the Grade II listed structure was carefully restored and transformed into a pub that served freshly prepared and locally sourced food and drink. Today it has many accolades to its credit, including an international Traveller’s Choice Award and regional Taste Cheshire Award.

Guests of the pub’s new opening hours will also have the pleasure of knowing that the pub purchases they make will all contribute to the zoo’s tireless conservation efforts, protecting endangered species from all over the globe.
