North West animal attraction and conservation charity Chester Zoo has revealed a new feature for Halloween. Designed to provide families with an entertaining day out in autumn, the zoo has joined forces with the world-famous statistics-based card game “Top Trumps”.
During the run-up to the spookiest day of 2026, zoo visitors can tackle a trail mapped out especially for the season. Intrepid adventurers can collect a trail map and discover which animal they will play as. From there, they will follow a path to discover massive Top Trumps cards dedicated to different animal inhabitants of the zoo. At each encounter, participants can compare the animal’s score on the card with their own to find out if they can become the Top Trumps experience’s ultimate champion.
Everyone who completes the trail will receive an exclusive Top Trumps game card that they can take home to bolster their personal pack.
Beyond the trail, Chester Zoo has plenty more in store for Halloween. Visitors can try to find all the giant pumpkin sculptures dotted around the zoological gardens, have their faces painted and sample a selection of seasonal sweet and savoury delights available to buy from various food outlets on site. The zoo’s gift shop will also be selling spooky souvenirs and gifts for guests to pick up as keepsakes of their Halloween adventure.
The Top Trumps trail will run from Saturday, 17 October to Sunday, 1 November, and the zoo is based just outside Chester’s historic Roman walls.
