Festive Films for Chester Arts Hub

The home of stage and screen in Chester, Storyhouse will be hosting an extensive selection of entertainment designed especially for the festive season. From laugh-out-loud pantomimes and magical plays filled with pirates and fairies to free arts and crafts sessions, there are options for all tastes and budgets. However, for those seeking a classic Christmas movie, the Chester arts hub will be screening many festive favourites over the coming weeks.

“The Grinch Who Stole Christmas” starring Jim Carrey will be on show on December 9 and 10. Rated PG, the Dr Seuss classic tells the tale of the miserly Grinch trying to ruin the season for the people of Whoville, and how Cindy Lou Who melts his frozen heart to teach him the meaning of the season.

December 13 and 14 will see “Love Actually” up on the big screen. The famous festive film is now celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2023, and Storyhouse is paying tribute to the important milestone for the beloved British Christmas rom-com. Featuring a cast of stars including Emma Thompson, Colin Firth, Hugh Grant, Keira Knightley and Bill Nighy, the film is rated 15.

“The Polar Express” will also be racing onto the screen on December 16 and 17. The magical animation set on Christmas Eve, and features Tom Hanks voicing multiple characters. Other movies featured in the run up to Christmas include vintage classics like “It’s a Wonderful Life” and festive masterpieces like “Die Hard” and “Home Alone”.
