Storyhouse in Chester recently announced that a pioneering programme will join its busy calendar this September.
Called “Storyhouse Childless 2026”, the event is returning to the arts centre with a weekend loaded with performances, talks and share experiences that explores a life living without children.
The multi-activity event is entering its sixth year and seeks to offer space for empowering, honest and nuanced conversations for people without children, enabling them to connect and build a community while raising awareness. Since its inception in 2019, the yearly programme has united hundreds, presenting performances, keynote speakers, workshops and panel discussions that represent the complexities of non-parenthood.
The upcoming event launches with an informal evening gathering accompanied by live music. Held in Storyhouse’s Garrett Bar and Theatre, the evening will feature a welcome from the event organisers and let attendees mingle. DJ Hy Jove will perform a live set and there will be an option to join a speed-friending session.
The programme proper begins on day two led by the event host, Chester University’s Associate Professor Dr Dawn Llewellyn, who has long-standing ties with Storyhouse Childless.
Panels will discuss current topics like the birth rate panic putting pressure on childless people and being a neurodivergent non-parent. Other features include a storytelling platform called “We are Childfree”, creative workshops helmed by Claire Beerjeraz, an in-house Storyhouse artist, discussion groups and more.
Storyhouse Childless 2026 will now be at the arts hub on Hunter Street from Friday, September 25 to Sunday, September 27.
