Since becoming co-chairman of Wrexham AFC with fellow actor Rob McElhenney, Ryan Reynolds has made the headlines in many North England papers.
Known for his roles in The Green Lantern and Deadpool superhero movies, Reynolds made a major investment in the football club in 2020. His support and promotion of the club via the Disney+ show “Welcome to Wrexham” has now turned the city into a global tourist destination.
With Chester around half an hour away from Wrexham over the England-Wales border, it’s understandable that the Hollywood star has taken advantage of simple logistics with many visits to the city. Just this January, Reynolds met McElhenney at the Grosvenor Pulford Hotel & Spa in Chester. On the Wrexham Road, the premier hotel is based in the English village of Pulford, just a stop away from Chester on the journey between the two cities.
Reynolds has also enjoyed dining out in Chester. The star was extremely vocal about his experience at The Forge restaurant in the city centre. The esteemed Hotel Indigo’s onsite eatery, The Forge has earned a stellar reputation for its sustainable menus that boast dishes designed with seasonal ingredients sourced from in and around Chester.
The restaurant that was awarded a two AA Rosettes rating for its culinary excellence was declared “Amazing” by Reynolds. The actor dined there with McElhenney when he stayed at the hotel in 2023, just two years after it opened. The sit-down dinner at the Forge followed an epic celebration with 40,000 Wrexham AFC fans at an open top bus parade.
Just 20 minutes away from Chester city centre, the town of Ellesmere Port was also graced with a visit from Reynolds in 2022. Following a victorious match between the Dragons and Maidstone, the actor posted on social media that he had celebrated the win in the port town placed in the borough of Cheshire West and Chester. Via his official Instagram account, Reynolds stated that the Light of India Balti House on Whitby Road served the best Indian cuisine in the whole of Europe.
