Local businesses getting competitive for 2 great worthy causes!

Pursglove & Brown’s charity football tournament returns at the end of this month, with local businesses taking part in a 7 a side football tournament. The event takes place on Sunday 22nd July at The Cheshire County Sports Club who are kindly providing the pitches free of charge.

Previous years have seen some interesting games so it’s anyone’s guess as to whose name will be on the charity shield at the end of it.

The event will benefit two local causes this year – the Hospice of the Good Shepherd and Tony’s Big Bottle Society which raises awareness of Oesophageal Cancer and also raises funds for other charities.

The Hospice of the Good Shepherd is a local charity providing end of life care and support, free of charge, to patients and their families from Chester, West Cheshire, Ellesmere Port and Deeside. Their services include specialist palliative care, both inpatient and outpatient, physiotherapy and complementary therapies. They also offer bereavement counselling for adults and children across West Cheshire even if they have had no connection to the Hospice. Each year it costs around £4million to continue to provide these vital services and they only receive around 25% from the NHS, the remaining £3million must come from fundraising within the local community.

Tony’s Big Bottle Society was created in memory of Tony who passed away aged just 16 following a brief battle against Oesophageal Cancer in May 2012. Over £17,000 has been raised to date for charities such as Clatterbridge Cancer Centre. This year they are supporting Youth Fed, a children’s charity which supports over 5,000 young people aged 8-25.

Anyone who wants to come along on the day is very welcome and refreshments will be available at the clubhouse. Registration is at 9.30am and kick off at 10am – any local businesses interested in taking part or sponsoring the event please email [email protected].  A programme will be made available after the event detailing the sponsors and teams contributions.
