Chester Zoo Hosts Royal Carol Concert

Award-winning attraction and world leader for conservation Chester Zoo recently hosted a special musical event.

A Christmas carol concert was held at the zoo to unite children and their families from across the county of Cheshire who have experienced a challenging year in 2023.

A royal event, the concert was part of HRH The Princess of Wales’ special initiative known as “Together at Christmas” and was among 12 community-focused carol services happening across the country. The event was hosted by Alexis Redmond, the Lord-Lieutenant of Cheshire, with support from The Royal Foundation.

The concert was created to bring cheer to many Cheshire families from throughout the region who have bravely faced difficulties in the last 12 months, but also to recognise some of the individuals and institutions who have worked to help others in their community, going above and beyond expectations.

The carol service was delivered by Mark Tanner, the Bishop of Chester, and was held at the Zoo’s all-new events and wedding venue. Completed just this year, The Square is a premier facility finished to exacting standards, and incorporates one of the zoo’s oldest areas.

The concert featured a host of gifted musicians and singers, who performed some of the UK’s most loved Christmas carols. The event also included a wide variety of readings delivered by children present.

Among the guests invited were children from schools in Ellesmere Port and Chester and their family members, guardians, teachers and carers. Children at Dale Barracks in Chester with parents in the military who were serving or recovering from serving were also at the event, along with young carers and the adult volunteers who support them.
