Chester Zoo Pub Extends Opening Hours

Drinking and dining in a pub surrounded by the sights and sounds of tens of thousands of animals is a major selling point for the Oakfield public house.. Situated at the centre of Chester Zoo, punters can enjoy a perfectly poured pint or nosh on some of the city’s finest gastro pub cuisine in the sun garden while Lions roar, bears growl and exotic birds sing nearby.

Originally, the pub was accessible only to visitors of the zoo during normal opening hours. However, increased interest saw the registered Chester charity soon start opening the pub for Friday evenings. However, the award-winning pub (Taste Cheshire and Traveller’s choice awards) has proven so popular that it’s extended the hours it opens even further. From May 12 it will open its doors to the public on Sunday evenings for the rest of the year.

The Oakfield’s Food and Beverage Operations Manager, Chloe Gill, commented:

“Our Friday evening trial proved to be super popular. So, in response to the phenomenal demand we’ve had, and as we head into summer months and begin to enjoy lighter evenings, we’re thrilled to extend our opening hours to include not just Fridays but Sunday evenings too!”

Doors will open on Sundays at 5pm and final food bookings will be taken at 7.30pm. The menu boasts a sumptuous Sunday roast and is loaded with pub plate classics like sausage and mash, fish and chips and The Oakfield’s signature steak burger. The pub is licensed to served drinks until 10pm.
