This year marks the 250th anniversary of esteemed novelist Jane Austen’s birth. To celebrate the occasion, Storyhouse’s Grosvenor Park Open Air Theatre will welcome back a much-praised production of one of her most cherished love stories, “Pride and Prejudice”.
The summer run in Chester’s famous greenspace will reunite the writer and director team that first brought Pride & Prejudice to the city’s annual open air theatre event in 2021. Awarded four and five-star reviews by critics at The Guardian, The Stage and CheshireLive, the iconic production is renowned for capturing the witty dialogue, detailed characterisations and insightful social commentary Austen is famous for.
Designed to take audiences back in time to the Regency era, the romantic play features gifted acting, dancing and music to tell the story of hearts colliding in the English countryside as the independent Elizabeth Bennet and aloof Mr Darcy’s fates become entangled forever.
Those attending the theatrical event of the season can raise a glass to the beloved author as bottles of bubbly on ice and craft beers can be pre-ordered alongside wood-fired pizzas when tickets are bought. A wide variety of seating options are available to select from, including picnic terraces, covered terraces and premium terraces with or without chairs. Storyhouse members and theatregoers under the age of 16 can access reduced admission to performances.
Pride and Prejudice will now run at Grosvenor Park Open Air Theatre from Friday, July 4 to Sunday, August 31, and tickets are now available for purchase.
