A high-profile event called the “Boodles Roodee Challenge Cup” is coming to Chester Racecourse this summer.
The prestigious two-day polo competition will return to the oldest racecourse in the world and promises non-stop action from elite contenders for spectators and sports fans.
Today, polo in Chester is recognised as a highlight of Cheshire’s social calendar, with attending crowds comprising residents and visitors from further afield. Effortlessly blending style, sport and summertime celebrations, the upcoming event includes an indulgent selection of food and drink and unique entertainment.
Even older than Chester’s historic race venue, polo as a sport dates to 600 BC and was first played by the Persians and Turkomans before being spread throughout the Eastern world by their descendants, India’s Mogul conquerors.
Guests attending the cup can enjoy many highlights including the long-standing half-time tradition where spectators smooth out divots on the field created by the horses’ hooves. Amongst the divots, a silver cork is hidden, and its finder will receive a bespoke gift or bottle of Champagne from the competition’s official sponsor.
Racegoers searching for a premium experience can also book the “Luxury Marquee Package”. Priced at £172 per person, it includes a reserved table with an elegant outdoor veranda to enjoy a three-course meal served and a Laurent Pierre Champagne welcome.
The Boodles Roodee Challenge Cup will now take centre stage at Chester Racecourse on Thursday, July 2 and Friday, July 3. The respected race venue is located on New Crane Street in Chester city centre.
