Yorkshire Indie Legends to Play Chester

The Live Rooms in Chester is hosting Leeds indie rockers The Wedding Present this weekend.

The band formed in 1985 with original members of the group The Lost Pandas seeking to start a new project. The Wedding Present was led by guitarist and vocalist David Gedge, who remains the frontman and the only constant member since the band’s inception.

Joining Gedge on stage in Chester are Danielle Wadey on bass guitar and backing vocals, Marcus Kain on guitar, and Charlie Layton on drums.

The indie group was closely connected to the C86 scene and enjoyed considerable popularity, with 18 singles entering the top 40 in the UK Singles Chart. This success included a memorable run of 12 singles in 1992, with one released for each month of the year. The feat tied them with Elvis Presley’s record for having the most top 40 hits within a single year.

During 2020 amidst the pandemic, The Wedding Present recorded a variety of acoustic renditions of other groups’ tracks. Each recording was made separately by each band member in their home and, once mixed, released via social media. All tracks were formally released in 2021 under the title “Locked Down and Stripped Back”. Last year, they rolled out a second album called “Locked Down and Stripped Back Volume Two”.

The Wedding Present will perform at The Live Rooms this Sunday, June 25. The venue is located at 1 Station Road in Chester and doors will open at 7:00 pm.
