Renowned for its restaurant scene and for hosting the Taste of Cheshire food festival, Chester has earned a reputation for culinary excellence. While fine British fare is always available within its walls, Chester also offers diners exotic tastes with dishes sourced from all over the world. Soon, the city will provide resident and visiting foodists alike with a unique eating experience centred around the gastronomy of Southern Africa.
A brand-new bar and restaurant offering alfresco dining, The Stixx is the brainchild of business professional Kingdom Thenga. No stranger to offering premier eating adventures in the northwest, Thenga is also the man behind The Yard restaurant on Chester’s City Road, which serves modern Italian masterpieces, wines and cocktails in a stylish setting.
According to the venue’s managers, what sets The Stixx apart from other eating and drinking destinations in Chester is its African philosophy of “Ubuntu”. Emphasising community and humanity, Ubuntu translates to “I am because we are”. As such, the bar will feature a “Braai”, which means barbecue in Afrikaans, but is far more than just a cooking method.
A cultural ritual, a Braai involves traditional food cooked over fires of burning African hard wood instead of charcoal. Featuring a communal experience where everyone eating can perform a role and share stories with their fellow diners, the new bar and braai promises a unique opportunity for all who book a table.
The Stixx is now set to launch this autumn at 1 The Arch in Kitchen Street Chester, and the bar will be open until midnight Wednesday to Sunday. Before the official opening you can join The Stixx for two pop up events during the last two Chester race meetings of 2024 on Friday 13, Saturday 14 and Saturday 21 September.
