Chef Entrepreneur Gary Usher’s award-winning bistros have all been recognised in the Good Food Guide 2020, including Sticky Walnut in Chester, Burnt Truffle in Heswall, Hispi in Didsbury, Wreckfish in Liverpool, Pinion in Prescot and Kala in Manchester, all in the same month that Channel 4 is airing a documentary on the opening of Pinion.

The 2020 Waitrose and Partner’s Good Food Guide has been announced, which recognises the best food and drink establishments across the UK, according to cooking score, editor appraisal and feedback from readers. Renowned for his record-breaking crowdfunded ventures to open ‘neighbourhood bistros’, all six of Gary Usher’s independent restaurants have been formally recognised by the prestigious guide, due to receiving acclaim on a national scale for exceptional culinary talent, service and atmosphere.

Chef-Owner, Gary Usher, comments: “I’m completely overwhelmed that all of the bistros have made the list and I really couldn’t be prouder. It’s all down to the team’s ridiculously hard work and the continuous support of our lovely guests. The news comes after it was announced last week that Sticky Walnut, was ranked at number 41 in Squaremeal’s Top 100 restaurants in the UK and Hispi at number 74.

Gary’s fifth bistro, Pinion, which opened in Prescot in September 2018, is subject of an upcoming Channel 4 documentary, which airs at 10pm on Thursday 19th September. The hour-long programme, voiced by Ricky Tomlinson, follow Gary’s quest to open a new restaurant in one of Merseyside’s most overlooked town centres.

Gary is attempting to bring bistro food to the people of Prescot, purely because his gut says everyone loves good food and he’s adamant he can build a thriving business. Sticking two fingers up at the banks, the restaurant chains and big businesses that ignore Britain’s small towns, Gary needs to crowdfund £50,000 to build a French-style bistro out of the rubble of an old BetFred and convince a town of sceptical locals to fall in love with deep-fried pig head croquettes and steak tartar…
