Three Days of Premier Racing Returns to Chester

Home to the oldest operational racecourse in the world, Chester is a hotspot for racing fans. Next month heralds the return of the racing season in the city, which kicks off at Chester Racecourse with a three-day event called the “Boodles May Festival”.

Officially sponsored by the famous luxury British fine jewellery brand, the festival is renowned for its intense atmosphere that combines competitive sporting action with the epitome of social style.

The 2026 edition of the festival promises an immersive and exhilarating experience sure to draw in big crowds. Launching the event is “Trials Day”, an occasion that lets festivalgoers see the latest racing champions in action. The day’s fixtures include the Weatherbys Cheshire Oaks, which is a trial for the Epsom Oaks, as well as The Boodles Chester Vase, a trial run for the celebrated Epsom Derby.

With a focus on fashion, “Ladies Day” is the second event of the festival. Alongside high-stakes horse racing, the day is dedicated to glamour and includes a “Best Dressed Competition” for ladies and gentlemen attending the races, plus prizes and evening entertainment.

The final day of the festival features the “Ladbrokes Chester Cup race”, where returning legends and new stars of flat racing in the making will tear up the turf for glory in the final furlong.

The Boodles May Festival 2026 will now run from Wednesday, May 6 to Friday, May 8 at Chester Racecourse. The historic racing venue is situated on New Crane Street in the heart of the city.
